Maryam Nawaz, Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), addressed a convention of party workers in Phool Nagar on Wednesday. In her speech, she claimed that those conspiring against democracy are the reason why the country has not yet been freed from their influence.
She asserted that “Baba Rehmat’s” adherents have taken the place of the RTS (result transmission system), which her party cited as the cause of its electoral defeat in 2018. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), she continued, is a “terrorist outfit” rather than a political organisation.
Nothing, according to Maryam Nawaz, is more powerful than the state or the government, and nothing could prevent an arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan today if the state made that decision. She continued by saying that the PML-N was in the race to save the nation, not to win elections.
She charged that Imran Khan was acting “like a coward” by using his party members to prevent his arrest. She bemoaned the clashes between PTI members and police officers and claimed that instead of hurting police officers, Imran Khan’s supporters were disparaging the legal system and courts across the nation.
According to Maryam Nawaz, her party is working to strike a fair balance and that is the “true honour of the vote.”
The PML-N leader asserted that only her group was capable of defending Pakistan’s and its federating units’ interests. She also asserted that Nawaz Sharif was the most courageous and forward-thinking leader of any party in the nation. Maryam Nawaz added that the PML-youth N’s wing was its foundation, and if elections were postponed, she would begin organising it in Phoolnagar.
Rana Sanaullah, the interior minister, who was also present at the convention, referred to PTI Chairman Imran Khan as “a person who is working on someone else’s agenda” as the cause of the nation’s worst crisis in its history.
He asserted that Nawaz Sharif’s rule saw the end of terrorism and that the PTI government’s “wrong policies” and the agreements made with the International Monetary Fund during that time were to blame for the country’s current inflationary wave.
Maryam Nawaz emphasised during the convention that the PML-N was fighting for the respect of the vote and that the playing field needed to be level. She lamented that the “conspirators” were still working because justice would not be served unless and until this balance was achieved.
Nawaz Sharif was praised by Maryam Nawaz for being a strong leader who always looked out for his employees. She referred to Imran Khan as the man hiding behind the workers, women, and children and said that Nawaz had been a shield for them.
She added that Nawaz Sharif and his daughter had returned from London to prepare for a prison sentence. “He cannot be compared to a man who is afraid to enter a courtroom.”
Maryam Nawaz declared that the PML-N was the protector of progress and honour in Pakistan as she concluded her remarks. “This party’s brave workers are its pride, and it is a great honor for me to lead them,” she said.
In the meantime, Hamza Shahbaz submitted his nomination papers for the PP-146, PP-147, and PP-163 city constituencies.
