Messi Resumes PSG Training After Suspension

Lionel Messi returns to Paris Saint-Germain training following a two-week suspension for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia.

Lionel Messi has started working out again with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after being suspended for taking an unapproved trip to Saudi Arabia. The Ligue 1 team tweeted a picture of the World Cup winner dressed for practise along with the caption, “Leo Messi back in training this Monday morning.”

The day following PSG’s unexpected loss to Lorient, Messi, an ambassador for the Saudi Tourism Authority, was captured in a photo in Riyadh. He later explained in an Instagram video that he had to make the trip despite having originally cancelled it due to contractual obligations and had erroneously believed he had the day off.

PSG suspended Messi for two weeks as a result of his behaviour, and he was not present for their 3-1 victory over Troyes on Sunday. Messi has since resumed training though, after apologising to PSG and his teammates in a video that was made public on Friday. The next PSG game is set for this coming Saturday, when they host Ajaccio.

The seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or moved from Barcelona to PSG in August 2021 after the Catalan club encountered serious financial difficulties. Barcelona has indicated a desire to re-sign Messi this summer, but it’s still unclear whether they can come to an agreement within the financial restrictions of La Liga’s financial fair play regulations. Inter Miami of the Major League Soccer is also reportedly interested in signing Messi, and the Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal has reportedly made a sizable offer of over £350 million annually.
