Through his Twitter account, Rafique announced a 33% discount on all classes of Pakistan Railways fares. In addition, economy and executive economy class tickets for domestic flights with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will see a 20% reduction in price.
These discounted fares are effective immediately and will be applicable for four days, from July 22 to July 25. A PIA spokesperson shared that the decision to lower prices was made to spread the joy of Eid among the people.
Today, the resilient nation of Pakistan celebrates Eid ul Fitr, signaling the end of a month of fasting during Ramadan. This comes as the country prays for resolution to its ongoing economic and constitutional crises.
Pakistan is grappling with one of its most challenging crises, exacerbated by external factors, placing additional strain on its citizens who are already experiencing soaring inflation. In March, inflation reached 35%, driven by a depreciating currency, reduced subsidies, and the implementation of higher tariffs in order to secure a $1.1 billion bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Food inflation has climbed to over 47%, prompting even the wealthier professional class to make lifestyle adjustments in response to rising costs.
