On Thursday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif withdrawn a curative reference against the court’s senior most judge, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, calling it baseless and politically driven.
As a result of the reference being politically motivated and based on unfounded allegations, the prime minister instructed Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar to withdraw it, according to a statement from the PM Office.
During a meeting chaired by the prime minister, the federal cabinet already approved withdrawing the reference.
“This was not a reference but a victimization by revengeful Imran Niazi against an impartial individual following the constitution and the law.” The intention was to usurp the independence of the judiciary and create a rift within,” said PM.
As an opposition party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and other coalition partners opposed the frivolous reference.
According to the prime minister, Imran Niazi had also made the president of Pakistan engage in a “criminal act” by using his office.
The government valued the opinions of attorneys’ organizations such as the Pakistan Bar Council, he said.
