The Indian team’s refusal to play in Pakistan has cast doubt on the relevance of the impending Asia Cup 2023, which has alarmed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The 2018 Asian tournament’s initial host, Pakistan, is actively considering the idea of moving the event, and the Pakistan Cricket Board is studying prospective substitute locations in Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates.
The PCB may need to find a solution quickly because India has expressed reluctance to play in the next September Asia Cup.
Due to the anticipated loss of billions of rupees, it is also not practical to boycott the ICC World Cup 2023, which is planned to take place in India. Officials from the PCB are trying to find a method to save the Asia Cup without endangering their stance on the Indian team’s boycott.
Separate meetings were conducted with representatives from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the UAE by the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee, Najam Sethi, to consider alternative options.
It will be difficult to withdraw from the situation if the event goes on without them since there will be no revenue from television and other sources. As a result, attempts are being made by the organisers to find a solution, and they do not intend to cancel the event.
As a result, the PCB is thinking of switching the tournament with the next host, with Pakistan taking up this year’s hosting responsibilities while forgoing the following event.
It was reported in “Express” a few days ago that only Indian team matches were taken into consideration in the UAE.
Yet, this strategy will result in a huge rise in costs for both India and the other competing teams.
The board is dedicated to coming up with a solution that will allow the Asia Cup to go on, notwithstanding the difficulties.
They are determined to prevent the event from being cancelled because they understand how important it is.
A compromise is being sought in the meetings, which also involve the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
