    • In 2022, Google disclosed that it had prevented more than $2 billion in fraudulent and abusive transactions. When bad actors collaborate to carry out coordinated attempts, it can result in large-scale app abuse.   • Google has taken down several loan apps from the Play Store in Kenya, requiring digital lenders to submit proof of a license, following Kenya’s Digital Credit Providers (DCP) regulations, since January. This regulation mandates that entities providing digital loans obtain a license from the Central Bank of Kenya.
  • Three of China’s largest Android manufacturers, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, have formed a partnership to make it easier for consumers in China to switch devices. The companies will provide a migration tool that helps transfer phone data and files between their various smartphone models.
  • Samsung has extended its commitment to offer up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades, up from its previous promise of three upgrades. The expanded commitment applies to select Galaxy S series, Z series, and A Series smartphones, and tablets.
  • Google identified several apps made by Chinese e-commerce giant Pinduoduo as malware, alerted users who had installed the apps, and suspended the company’s official app due to security concerns while it investigates. Google Play Protect, the Android security mechanism, will also prevent users from installing malicious apps.
