Gen. Bajwa wanted an additional extension: Khaqan Abbasi

He asserted that Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the PMLN, was the sole person opposed to such a move.

Gen. Bajwa asked for an additional delay. Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, Khaqan argued against imprisoning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan right away, stressing his aversion to political retribution.

The former prime minister declared, "Even if Imran Khan did something, I'm not for throwing anyone in jail."

Trials had to be held concurrently, he argued, as accusations are brought every day.

The former senior vice-president of the PMLN commented on the ongoing legal proceedings against the PTI leader, saying: "After this situation is resolved, punish Imran Khan if he has done anything."

He further noted that in the last 50 years, only former Prime Minister Muhammad Khan Junejo had not been imprisoned as a result of the 1973 Constitution.

In response to speculation that he and his party's Senior Vice-President and Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz had fallen out over his absence from the PML-N worker's convention in Islamabad, the former premier clarified that Maryam had visited the city but that he had not been invited to the convention because it was only for that particular division.
