During the Third BPC Meeting, Pakistan and China Discussed Bilateral Cooperation

Pakistan and China recently met in Beijing on March 18, where they discussed and decided to strengthen and expand their bilateral ties.

The third round of Pakistan-China bilateral political consultations (BPC), also known as the meeting, was centred on strengthening people-to-people ties, bilateral trade, economic and financial cooperation, cultural exchanges, and tourism.

The Pakistan delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Dr Asad Majeed Khan, while Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong led the Chinese side. Both nations have decided to improve high-level interactions and dialogue processes in order to further bolster their communication channels.

Both parties celebrated the meeting’s culmination of a decade of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which continues to be a significant pillar of bilateral cooperation and a representation of the two countries’ ever-deepening friendship.

They also agreed to continue participating in CPEC’s expansion, including inviting outside parties to promote connectivity and cooperation in the region.

Dr. Majeed thanked China for its generous and ongoing support of Pakistan’s economic stability as well as for providing humanitarian aid during the devastating floods in 2022. Vice Foreign Minister Sun responded by restating China’s support for Pakistan’s independence, integrity, and economic security.

The two sides expressed satisfaction over their close cooperation and engagement on significant regional developments, including in Afghanistan, and discussed a variety of regional and global issues of mutual interest in addition to bilateral issues. China and Pakistan have decided to intensify their communication and collaboration on multilateral platforms.

This meeting is a regular institutional mechanism between the two countries and demonstrates the strength of their longstanding friendship and commitment to bilateral cooperation.

The discussions that took place during this round of the Pakistan-China Bilateral Political Consultations are a step in the right direction for the two countries’ expanding and strengthening their strategic partnership.
