The Lahore police chief’s removal decision was suspended by the Supreme Court on Friday and the case was sent to a larger panel of the high court.
After hearing Dogar’s appeal, a three-judge panel of the supreme court led by Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan submitted the case to a five-judge panel that is currently deliberating a case involving transfer and posting in Punjab.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan heard the matter on Thursday and ordered Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja to turn over all the documents pertaining to Dogar’s transfer. Justice Munib Akhtar was added to the bench, and the court reconvened.
On January 23, the caretaker administration fired Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, a blue-eyed police officer who had served under former chief minister Parvez Elahi, and replaced him with Bilal Siddique Kamyana.
After an irate mob of PTI supporters staged a protest outside Governor House in Lahore on November 5 of last year against the assassination attempt on the party’s chairman, Imran Khan, the federal government suspended the then-Lahore CCPO Dogar.
