On Sunday, the President of Pakistan returned a bill seeking amendments in NAB, stating that earlier amendments bills are still in the apex court and no final decision has been made.

Earlier in April, the bill that was also referred to as “Part 2 of NRO-2” by the opposition parties had sailed through the parliament quite smoothly without even being referred to the concerned standing committee.

The bill, which was already passed by the NA, was moved in the senate by law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar despite heavy protests by the PTI members.

The law, proposed by the government in the month of March, empowers the NAB chairman to transfer graft cases including corruption cases of less than 500 million to the relevant authority. According to the proposed amendments the Chairman will also have the power to close pending investigations and inquiries where he might think that no case is made out.
