The Lahore High Court has permitted the lawyer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan to consult with him regarding the appointment of CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana as his security focal point.
During a hearing for Imran’s petition seeking foolproof security and permission to mark his attendance via video link, the decision was made.
After agreeing to the PTI’s lawyer’s request for a consultation with Imran Khan, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh presided over the hearing and set the next hearing date for March 15.
The law officer revealed to the court during the hearing that the petitioner has been given complete security. Azhar Siddique, an attorney, disagreed with the law officer’s position and pointed out that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had more security when he appeared before the court.
Justice Sheikh suggested CCPO Kamyana be Imran’s security point person, but PTI’s legal team objected to the idea. Before making a decision, Attorney Siddique pleaded with the court to give him some time to speak with Imran Khan.
Imran claimed in his petition that his political opponents are attempting to have him removed from the political scene and that he will likely be targeted during court appearances and hearings. He claimed that since he was forced out of office, the current government has filed false charges against him and senior PTI members, tortured them, and accused them of sedition and mutiny.
According to the petition, PTI decided to protest the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and declared the “Haqeqi Azadi March” as a result of the malicious campaign that had been waged against them. Imran also demanded harsh punishment from the respondents for failing to keep the peace and order on the court grounds throughout his legal proceedings.
The petition also demanded “no adverse action and no arrest” up until suitable security is set up for court appearances and attendance.
It’s a good step forward that the court permitted Imran Khan to speak with his attorney before appointing CCPO Kamyana as his security focal point. It demonstrates the court’s dedication to making sure that everyone involved in the legal process is safe and secure.
It is understandable why Imran worries about being singled out during court appearances and hearings; political rivalries and hostility frequently spill over into the courtroom. In order to protect Imran and the other participants in the proceedings from any harm, it is crucial that the proper security measures are in place.
In a democratic society, the PTI’s decision to protest the PDM’s alleged political victimisation is an appropriate course of action. It is crucial that people and organisations have the freedom to express their disagreement and hold those in authority responsible for their deeds.
Finally, the Lahore High Court’s decision to allow Imran Khan’s attorney permission to speak with him about his security arrangements is a positive development that demonstrates the court’s dedication to ensuring a safe and secure environment for everyone involved in legal proceedings.
