As the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed serious reservations regarding the ongoing census, stating that his party supports digital enumeration, but disagrees with the way it is being conducted.
The PPP may withdraw from the government if the Centre fails to fulfill its promise to flood-affected populations, Bilawal warned at the inauguration ceremony of the seed subsidy program for growers at the Chief Minister House.
The PPP will not support the current methodology but can support a genuine and scientific census. Bilawal declared, “We cannot support such a census. However, he added that the Centre “has no solution to our objections”. According to Bilawal, Sindh is the only province that is protesting the census.
“We won’t accept the results if there are any irregularities. We voiced our opposition to the 2017 census. The number of Sindh and the other provinces varied significantly. Sindh won’t support the federal government if it doesn’t address the PPP’s concerns this time.
Bilawal also urged the Shehbaz Sharif-led federal government to fulfill its promises to the people of Sindh who have been affected by floods. He warned that if these promises were not kept, the PPP would have difficulty remaining in government.
If the federation keeps the flood victims in Sindh and Punjab at the top of its priority list, a good message will be conveyed. The public will question us if the Center does not keep the promises it made to the flood victims. It will be challenging to maintain our ministry in such a circumstance. As a result, the issue will be brought up in both the National Assembly and the federal cabinet, according to Bilawal.
Inflation, along with an alarming state of law and order, is the biggest issue the nation is currently facing, he added. However, he expressed confidence in the PPP’s ability to resolve these issues. In order to revive the economy and create jobs, the PPP works. “The party has a solution to the economic challenges that face the country.”
In his call for more investment in the agricultural sector, Bilawal emphasized that Pakistan is an agricultural nation. He asserted that the nation couldn’t meet its agricultural needs without aiding the agricultural sector. “If the agricultural sector is not supported, how can we meet our needs? How will Pakistan become an agricultural nation if they don’t invest in it? The agricultural sector needs to be prioritized in order to boost the economy.
Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was also criticised by Bilawal for his politics of hatred and division. He claimed that a “political rat is hiding under the bed” at Zaman Park without giving his name. “Politicians like Khan Sahib sowed discord and hostility in the political sphere. We should concentrate on the economy rather than the political rat, the PPP chairman continued.
Bilawal concluded by saying that because of the high inflation, every sector of society is troubled. The PPP, he continued, has no beef with the “selectors” and is working to revive the economy.
