Prince William is first in line to the throne, while Prince George is second, following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September.
In an interview last year, author and historian Hilary Mantel stated that she believes Prince George will never ascend to the throne and that his father, Prince William, will be the last King.
She told The Times that Prince William will be crowned monarch after King Charles, but that the line will end there.
“I think it’s a fair prediction,” Hilary Mantel continued, “but I wouldn’t put money on it.”
“It’s difficult to understand the thinking behind monarchy in the modern world when people are merely celebrities.”
