Man Hides £26 Million Lottery From Wife

A lucky Chinese guy who won the £26 million lottery chose to keep it a secret from his family in order to discourage them from growing complacent.

The man, who has only been identified by his first name, went to the lottery office in Nanning, China, to pick up his winnings while hiding himself by donning a character costume.

The father believed that the news would change his family’s way of life and outlook on life. He made the choice to keep the news a secret despite his excitement.

Last Monday, he received his payment, which had been reduced to £20.4 million after taxes, or 171.6 million yuan.

Nanning Evening News reported that the fortunate man gave 5 million yuan to charity.

The Daily Star quoted him as stating, “I didn’t tell my wife and child for fear that they would be too complacent and would not work, or work hard, in the future.”

According to The Sun, the man purchased a total of 40 lottery tickets from a nearby store called Litang. The lottery corporation would pay out 5.48 million yuan for each ticket that contained the same seven numbers: 2, 15, 19, 26, 27, 29, and 2.

He bought the tickets from a village east of Nanning, boarded the train, and arrived in the city to collect his enormous reward immediately. The winner admitted that he wasn’t sure what to do with his winnings. He had played the game for more than ten years and had never in his entire life won such a significant sum.
