KARACHI – A joint investigation team (JIT) was established by the capital administration on Saturday to look into the Islamabad suicide vehicle attack.
The eight-person team would be led by a senior member of the counter-terrorism department (CTD), and the JIT also includes representatives from intelligence agencies.
The members will begin an investigation into the suicide attack that tore through Sector I-10 in Islamabad, killing two individuals including a police officer.
Following a suicide attack on Friday in Islamabad’s I-10/4 district, a complaint was opened by the Counter-Terrorism Department under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) under the categories of terrorism, murder, and attempted murder.
After breaking the ceasefire and announcing terror attacks, the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the incident.
According to accounts, the bombing on Friday happened close to the police headquarters on the main route that leads to the government buildings that house the parliament and other important offices. Since the courthouse explosion in 2014, it was the first attack in the capital.
