Shaukat Tarin is being sought by the FIA in connection with the IMF audio leak case

According to reports, after labelling the recalcitrant politician a fugitive in the case, the FIA will get in touch with Interpol to arrange for his arrest while he is already abroad.

The change occurs a few days after Shaukat Tarin was detained over the allegedly leaked tape. Months after his purported audio leaks surfaced, the Federal Investigators' cybercrime division filed a case under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) against a former senator.

The senior lawmaker was heard allegedly pleading with previous provincial finance directors to block the restart of a loan programme with the International Monetary Fund in the audio leaks (IMF).

The development had also been verified by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, who said that his ministry had permitted investigators to apprehend the rebellious lawmaker after concluding its inquiries into the former finance czar.

When Tarin's conversation with the finance ministers of Punjab and KP was leaked, the investigators first asked the interior ministry for permission before launching legal action against him.
