Five Suspects Booked Over Tragic Death of Minister

On Saturday night in Pakistan, Mufti Abdul Shakoor, the minister of religious affairs, was killed in a fatal car accident.

Five suspects have been charged by the police in connection with the incident, and the driver of the car that crashed has been detained for a two-day physical remand.

The Hilux vehicle was being driven faster than the 60 km/h maximum speed limit, at 110 km/h, according to a motor vehicle examiner report cited by the police. Mufti Shakoor was travelling at a speed of 30 km/h, in contrast.

The minister’s vehicle was completely destroyed as a result of the collision, with the front tyre and axle coming apart from the main body.

The owner of the Hilux was a well-known poultry industry businessman whose family is connected to a political organisation. While the other two occupants of the Hilux vehicle managed to escape, two of them were taken to a hospital.

The police have included Sections 279 (rash driving), 322 (punishment for qatl-bis-sabab), and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case.

The minister had visited the complainant’s home for Iftar before departing for the Parliament Lodges at 8:22 p.m., according to information provided to the Secretariat police by Haji Qudratullah.

The driver of Mufti Shakoor called the complainant’s cook at 10 p.m. to let him know the minister had died in the collision. According to the FIR, the Hilux’s driver rammed into the minister’s car while operating it carelessly.

Due to the incident’s “sensitive nature,” the complainant asked the police to look into every detail and “take action” against those who were in the other vehicle.

The police have drawn blood from the driver to determine whether he was intoxicated at the time of driving in order to fully investigate the case.

On Constitution Avenue, the accident happened as the minister, a 55-year-old active JUI-F leader known for his vehement speeches against his political rivals, particularly PTI, was travelling in the direction of Secretariat Chowk.

On the platform of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, he won the NA-51 seat in the National Assembly in the 2018 general elections.

Lakki Marwat was Mufti Shakoor’s native region. The minister’s fatal head injury, which hospital officials confirmed caused him to die, was a result of a severe head trauma.

A postmortem has been performed before giving the deceased’s body to the family. In addition to promising to punish those responsible severely, the police have called for an investigation into the incident.
