Asim Munir, Pakistan’s recently appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), was called by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III, according to the Department of Defense.

In this regard, a press release stated that General Asim Munir, the new chief of army staff of Pakistan, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke on the phone.

Along with recent regional developments, General Asim Munir and Lloyd Austin talked about topics of shared interest. Austin, a close assistant to US President Joe Biden, also congratulated General Asim on taking the reins as the nation’s top general.

In addition to reiterating that the US and Pakistan have a long-standing defence alliance, the US Secretary of Defense expressed his eagerness to collaborate with General Asim Munir.

The most recent development marks the second high-level conversation between Pakistani and US defence officials since the new administration took over. General Michael Erik Kurilla, head of the US Central Command, visited Pakistan last month and spoke with Army Chief Asim.

Along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, he inspected conditions and activities, talked with senior military figures, and discussed ways to improve defence ties between the two nations.
