The Peoples Electric Bus Service (PEBS) must be launched immediately, and its routes must be decided in Karachi, according to an instruction from Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon to the Sindh Mass Transit Authority.
On Monday, Memon presided over a meeting addressing the People’s Bus Service (PBS). The introduction of new routes and the acquisition of new buses were topics of conversation.
He said that the government had chosen to expedite the procurement process and had approved the purchase of more buses.
The Sindh government also disclosed late last year its intentions to start an electric taxi service that will compete with ride-hailing platforms.
Memon claimed that the current ride-hailing providers have dramatically raised their prices. This has made it even more important to launch a new, more affordable taxi service.
The Sindh government, according to Memon, is assiduously working to establish a fresh, comfortable, and environmentally friendly taxi service in Karachi. He also mentioned that the public would soon be able to use this technology.
Although Memon did not provide a debut date, it might be some time since the government has not yet begun testing the service.
