When a mechanical issue on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft PK-784 occurred just before takeoff from Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada, hundreds of passengers were forced to suffer.
Around 250 passengers were reportedly on board when the hydraulic system of the PIA’s Boeing 777 malfunctioned, delaying the flight by 30 hours.
After removing every passenger, the aircraft was taken for maintenance. Finally taking off at 8:22 on Friday, the aircraft is scheduled to touch down in Karachi at 8:31 tonight.
Separately, the PIA and Civil Aviation Authority will be the subject of a remote safety audit by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) (CAA).
PIA’s airworthiness will be evaluated by Europe’s leading aviation safety organisation, which will also decide whether to grant it access to European airspace.
After the incident involving shady pilot licences gained international attention in July 2020, the Europe Union (EU) had already banned PIA operations.
