Like it does every other year, WhatsApp will stop operating on select smartphones as of today, rendering such devices unable to access the software (December 31).
According to a report from The Independent, the instant messaging software keeps releasing fresh versions. However, after the app receives the most recent updates after December 31, some handsets with outdated operating systems will stop supporting the app.
For cellphones with out-of-date operating systems, the corporation will stop offering its services. However, before the app stops functioning on their phones, the users of these smartphones will receive a warning message.
According to a statement released by WhatsApp, “Devices and software change often, so we routinely assess what operating systems we support and make upgrades.”
The most recent security updates may not be installed on some devices, or they may not have the features needed to run WhatsApp. Like other technology firms, we evaluate which hardware and software are the oldest and have the fewest users each year to determine what to stop maintaining.
On an iPhone, go to “general” settings and choose “software” to update the operating system.
