The third T20I of Pakistan’s ongoing home series against New Zealand in Lahore is likely to be missed by wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan due to persistent back pain brought on by an injury he sustained in the previous game, sources stated on Monday.
The batsman hurt his back when playing a shot on Saturday in the second game, but he remained on the field until the seventh over of New Zealand’s run-chase. He is anticipated to be replaced by Mohammad Haris.
According to sources, a decision regarding Rizwan’s inclusion in the starting XI for today’s game will be made following another assessment of his condition today. Rizwan is a crucial member of the home team.
Although Rizwan’s ailment is not significant, it is more likely that the right-handed batter would be rested as a preventative measure and replaced in the squad by replacement Mohammad Haris, they added.
Pakistan will play New Zealand today in an effort to clinch the five-match T20I series by picking up their third straight victory. The hosts hold a 2-0 series advantage.
Following the T20 series, Pakistan and New Zealand will play five one-day internationals to hone their strategies for this year’s 50-over World Cup in India.
