Suleman Shehbaz Gets Clean Chit by FIA

FIA cleared Suleman Shehbaz, the son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in the Rs16 billion money laundering case on Saturday.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cleared Suleman Shehbaz, the son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in the Rs16 billion money laundering case on Saturday.

Suleman returned to Pakistan earlier this month after four years in self-exile in London and was implicated in the FIA corruption probe.

His father, Prime Minister Shehbaz, and brother, Hamza Shahbaz, had both been acquitted in the case.

On December 23, 2022, a special court in Lahore granted Suleman interim bail in the money laundering case against bail bonds totaling Rs100,000 after he filed a bail application noting that the court needed to fulfill legal procedures before designating him an absconder.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had stopped the FIA from arresting him before his return to Pakistan.

During today’s special court hearing (central) hearing, the investigation agency issued a supplementary challan, stating that Suleman and co-accused Tahir Naqvi was “not found guilty.”

Suleman’s pre-arrest bail plea was being heard in court.

During the hearing, however, advocate Amjad Parvez informed the court that Suleman and Naqvi wished to withdraw their previous bail pleas.
