SC probably will talk about the Elahi-judge audio leaks next week

A recent audio clip of an Supreme Court judge got viral on social media

In addition to getting a bird’s eye view of the Supreme Court rulings on phone tapping Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial is likely to call an important meeting of judges the following week to discuss the recent audio leaks allegedly involving former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and an apex court judge.

The informal discussion held at the Supreme Court earlier on Friday included all 14 eligible judges, with the exception of one. The judge, who was the subject of the purported audio clips, was present at the meeting.

The latest judge’s audio tape went viral on social media, raising concerns around the nation, especially among the legal community regarding the judge’s reputation.

Concerns concerning the confidentiality of Pakistani citizens’ communications have been raised in light of the recent disclosure of private telephone conversations between a Supreme Court judge and the former chief minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

The right to dignity and privacy is strongly guaranteed by Article 14 of the Constitution and may not be compromised except under specific legal circumstances.

It was learned that the judges thoroughly discussed the apex court rulings wherein the court had made various observations regarding the phone tapping of judges during their meeting on Friday, in addition to examining the recent audio tape of the judge.
