After the Dubai Tennis Championships, Indian tennis prodigy Sania Mirza, 36, will stop her professional career, which she began more than 20 years ago.
In a recent interview with the Women’s Tennis Association, one of the finest women’s tennis players announced that she would retire next month (WTA).
Sania, who has been battling with a calf problem, said that her decision to not push her body was primarily influenced by her age. She added that her priorities had changed and that she “just don’t have the capacity in my mind to emotionally push that much anymore.”
Sania stated concentrating on her studies in the UAE, where she has lived since being married to former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, after hanging up her boots after two decades of playing professional tennis.
The 36-year-old, who has won six Grand Slam doubles titles, elevated South Asian women’s sports to new heights. She made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a singles championship in the Women’s Tennis Association.
