Poland’s Iga Swiatek moves closer to securing another WTA title after a commanding performance in the Madrid Open quarterfinals.
Swiatek emerged victorious against Croatia’s Petra Martic in a straight-set match, with final scores of 6-0 and 6-3.
Competing in the Madrid Open for only her second time, Swiatek holds the current world number one ranking in women’s singles. Her exceptional performance against Martic showcased her talent and steadiness on the court.
During the first set, Swiatek displayed her dominance by losing merely eight points and ultimately clinching the set 6-0. Martic found it challenging to match Swiatek’s aggressive play and strong serves.
Although the second set saw a closer competition, Swiatek still managed to obtain a vital break of serve, setting her apart from Martic. With five consecutive WTA Tour semifinals to her name, Swiatek appears to be in top form and is anticipated to maintain her remarkable streak in future matches.
In the semifinals, Swiatek will face 12th seeded Russian player Veronika Kudermetova. Their match, scheduled for Thursday, will determine who advances to the Madrid Open final.
Swiatek’s previous victories include the 2020 French Open and the 2021 Adelaide International, and she aims to add another title to her growing list. Given her current form and dominant play, it would require a formidable challenger to prevent the young star from reaching her objectives.
