On Sunday, January 1, 2023, gunmen opened fire on a police checkpoint in the Shahbaz Khel neighbourhood of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat District, martyred a police constable in the process. Lakki Marwat police spokesperson Shahid Hameed told the media that the terrorists used heavy and automatic weapons to attack the police [checkpost] and tried to break in.
The police responded in a timely manner, which prevented the attack, the spokeswoman claimed.
Hameed identified the murdered police officer as Rapid Response Force Constable Tehsinullah.
According to the speaker, Owais Abdulkhel was the terrorist. Additionally, weapons were found on him.
According to Hameed, the suspect was wanted by the CTD (Counter Terrorism Department) Bannu for allegedly participating in attacks on security personnel and law enforcement.
At the Lakki Marwat district police officer’s office on Sunday, the funeral prayers for the martyred police constable were offered.
The incident follows a recent spike in terrorist attacks around the nation after the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an outlawed organisation, broke a months-long ceasefire with the government.
