Wednesday saw a dramatic increase in gold prices in Pakistan as the US dollar strengthened against the Pakistani rupee and the price of the precious metal increased steadily on the world market.
In Pakistan, the price of a tola of 24-karat gold increased by Rs1850 to reach Rs158,850, closing in on the record high of Rs162,000 a tola set in July of this year.
The cost of 10 grammes of 24-karat gold also increased by Rs. 1586 to Rs. 136,188. The price of a 10-gram piece of 22-karat gold is Rs. 124839.
One ounce of gold now costs $1782 on the world market, a rise of $7.
The price of 24-Karat silver in the country also increased by Rs10 per tola and was available for Rs1690 while the price of 10 grams of 24-Karat was increased by Rs8.60 to reach Rs1448.92.
