Friday, the necessary departments were ordered by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to begin the process of outsourcing three of the nation’s international airports through a public-private partnership (PPP).
While presiding over a meeting to discuss issues pertaining to aviation and Pakistan International Airlines, the prime offered these instructions (PIA). The first airports to be outsourced are the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, and the Islamabad International Airport.
The prime minister emphasised the need for transparency and ordered all pertinent departments to take action in this area as soon as possible.
The premier ordered the creation of a special committee to manage the outsourcing process in order to finish it as quickly as possible. The committee will be personally led by the prime minister.
The gathering was informed that in 2022, PIA reported income of Rs. 172 billion, the largest amount ever recorded in airline history. It was also stated that PIA has expanded its network and added four new A-320 aircraft to its fleet.
Participants at the meeting were Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Federal Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, and Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
