The former interior minister Sheikh Rashid’s bail was accepted by the Islamabad High Court on Thursday, weeks after the Awami Muslim League leader was detained for allegedly uttering derogatory comments against the late president Asif Zardari.
Rashid’s post-arrest bail request received a reserved verdict from IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani. The senior lawmaker was given the order to provide surety bonds of Rs. 50,000.
He initially applied to the high court after his bail was rejected by a district and sessions court.
Rasheed was detained for reportedly uttering disparaging remarks about the PPP leadership, and a federal court in the nation’s capital sentenced him to jail on a 14-day judicial detention. During the nighttime raid, Rasheed was detained by the capital police due to his alleged involvement in the former president’s assassination plot.
The outspoken lawmaker said that the PPP leader funded a terrorist organisation to kill the PTI leader.
