According to the Pakistan High Commission in Australia, Pakistani individuals on a connecting flight from Australia to Pakistan would need a visa if they wanted to leave the Malaysian airport for their next trip.
The High Commission tweeted a number of times to remind people to double-check the names of airports when buying tickets to make sure the connecting flight’s departure airport and the landing airport are the same.
