At Polo Ground in Malir Cantonment, Karachi, prayers were performed on Tuesday for former president Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who has since retired.
In the port city’s military cemetery, where his father was also interred, he was later laid to rest. The former president’s funeral services were held under strict security conditions.
Politicians including MQM-Farooq P’s Sattar and Mustafa Kamal attended the burial prayers of the former military leader, along with Gen. Sahir Shamshad, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, retired, and Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kiani, a retired general.
Musharraf passed away on Sunday in Dubai, and his body arrived at the Karachi airport on a special plane on Monday evening. The casket was followed by Musharraf’s wife Sehba Musharraf, son, and daughter.
The former general was being treated at the American Hospital in Dubai for amyloidosis, a rare illness. In June of last year, he spent three weeks in the hospital. “I’m going through a tough time where healing isn’t possible and my organs aren’t working properly. During that time, his family issued a statement via Musharraf’s official Twitter account, asking for prayers for ease in his everyday life.
