Amid the recent economic turmoil, Al-Hajj Automotive has taken a different approach from other local car assemblers and increased the price of only one variant of the Proton Saga. The Proton Saga Standard A/T model will now cost PKR 3,299,000, an increase of PKR 300,000 from its previous rate of PKR 2,999,000. However, the prices of the Saga Standard manual, ACE Automatic, and X70 variants remain unchanged.
This marks the first price hike by Proton Pakistan, as opposed to competitors Honda and Toyota who have raised car prices twice in a single month. All car companies, including Proton Pakistan, have attributed the recent price hikes to the ongoing economic crisis.
Pakistan’s economy is continuing to experience financial turbulence, which poses a new challenge for the automobile industry. As a result of a shortage of production, Toyota Indus Motors has taken an unprecedented step and announced a 100% refund policy.
As stated by the CEO of Indus Motor Company, recent import restrictions have destroyed the local automobile industry, and immediate measures from the government are needed to maintain political stability and stabilize the economy.
Currently, the company operates at 40-45% of its capacity. If these restrictions are not eased, the plant will have to close and production will cease,” he concluded.
