The Federal Probe Agency (FIA) has officially begun an investigation into a recent audio leak allegedly involving former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi after receiving authorisation from the interior ministry.
Elahi, a senior adviser to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, is supposedly heard discussing running courts in the audio that was leaked.
The action was taken the day after Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah contacted Pakistan’s Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to request that he take note of the audio leak. A forensic analysis of the stolen audio was requested by the security czar. He also requested the chief judge to prosecute the offenders.
The FIA, according to the sources, has been given the assignment by Sanaullah.
The audiotape, which purportedly features Elahi, will be sent for a forensic examination in the first round.
Sanaullah also played the filtered audio recording that was leaked and alleged to be the PMLQ leader talking about the cases being heard in the Supreme court.
The sources also stated that after consulting with the interior ministry, a case would be opened if the forensic analysis of the audio leak shows that it is Elahi’s voice.
