The decision was taken during the 600th meeting of the board of directors held on February 18, 2023.
In accordance with a resolution adopted by the board of directors, Hamdani must immediately resign from his position as MD while a board-appointed committee investigates the situation. The board will ultimately decide the fate of the MD after the committee has examined the issues brought up in the meeting.
The Power of Attorney in favour of Hamdani has been revoked by the board in order to maintain business operations, and Amer Tufail has been named the Acting Managing Director. The respective department heads and senior general managers who report to Tufail have received instructions from the board.
There are allegations against Hamdani relating to the approval of Rs7.58 million (excluding general sales tax) for the construction of a visitor’s lounge and parliamentarian’s lounge by SNGPL management in July 2021. The SNGPL then issued a work order of Rs8.6 million to the successful bidder the following day.
The management, under the direction of Hamdani, floated a tender in August 2021, blatantly in contravention of the company’s policies and procedures. In violation of the policies and procedures of the company, the MD Secretariat charged Rs. 5 million, or 67% of the total cost of the civil work. Even though the MD had only been given one vehicle in writing, the Secretariat still had control over seven vehicles.
To the accusations, Hamdani has not yet responded.
This choice by the SNGPL board shows how committed they are to making sure that all company representatives, regardless of their position, follow the company’s policies and procedures. Amer Tufail’s appointment as acting managing director will guarantee the business’s continuity and efficient operations.
