The Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, announced on Saturday an immediate increase of 25% in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) stipend.
He pledged to accelerate the process of providing relief money to flood-affected small farmers by the Sindh government. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the registration of deserving women under the BISP, Bilawal stated that the PPP’s politics was based on bringing justice to the common man.
In response to the poverty, inflation, and economic crisis in the nation, Benazir Bhutto introduced the idea of the BISP in her manifesto, he stated. The BISP was created with the intention of radically altering the lives of the nation’s most vulnerable women.
Bilawal claims that opponents of the BISP opposed its introduction, claiming that it would turn the populace into beggars. Nevertheless, the amount received through the BISP can change the circumstances of a poor person, a child, or a mother.
According to Bilawal, President Asif Ali Zardari battled the entire system to implement the BISP during his administration. International organisations, such as the United Nations, appreciate the program’s transparency because it has made it the most transparent institution. Bilawal emphasised that the BISP supported small businesses in addition to a woman’s home.
As a comprehensive tool to combat poverty in the nation, he argued that the BISP’s funding as well as the number of beneficiaries should be increased. Imran Khan used to claim that he did not visit the government to see the prices of tomatoes and onions during his time in office, according to Bilawal, who found this to be sad. The fact that they were in government and there to help the common man meant that they also had to see the prices of tomatoes and onions.
The PPP chairman stated that if any cuts were to be made, they would be borne by the BISP. He praised the German ambassador’s assistance with the BISP and flood victims. Among those who spoke at the event were BISP Chairperson Shazia Atta Marri, Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation Murad Ali Shah, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
