Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), has accused the Supreme Court of pressurizing politicians instead of uniting them.
This statement comes amidst the ruling alliance’s efforts to persuade Fazl to hold talks with Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), after the Supreme Court asked the government to hold talks with Khan on elections.
Fazl disagreed with the reasoning given for holding talks with Khan and stated that the government should not bow down to someone who has bankrupted the country. He also urged the Supreme Court not to disrespect the Parliament’s resolution regarding the release of funds for the Punjab elections.
The JUI-F chief has summoned an emergency meeting of his party’s central committee on April 26 to discuss the current political situation, the peace and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and planning for upcoming national and provincial assembly elections.
Last week, Fazl accused the Chief Justice of Pakistan of imposing “judicial martial law” in the country.
