The prosecutor informed the judge that Gandapur had been arrested by Islamabad police as soon as he was brought before the on-call magistrate’s court.
At the Golra police station, the police have filed a complaint against Gandapur under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), and they intend to ask for his physical detention in order to seize weapons from him.
According to sources, an audio recording of the PTI leader discussing the discovery of weapons close to Islamabad has been added to the case file.
Gandapur was taken into custody on Thursday in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), following the filing of separate lawsuits in Islamabad and Punjab.
He turned himself in to the police outside the DI Khan bench of the Peshawar High Court, where he had gone to obtain bail in cases brought against him for a variety of offenses, including terrorism.
The former minister alleged that police had also conducted raids at his home and were arresting him “illegally.”
Security personnel claimed earlier this week to have discovered a sizable cache of weapons in a car heading from the DI Khan residence in Gandapur to Lahore.
The police registered a FIR against Gandapur and two other suspects, who were later detained, after the car’s riders crashed into security barriers during a security check at the Dajal check post of the Bhakkar police.
The judge has ordered the police to bring Gandapur before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday.
Gandapur has been remanded into police custody for another day. The ATC will be asked by the police to hold him physically tomorrow.
The following day, Gandapur was given a six-day judicial remand and transported to the Central Jail in order to guarantee his appearance in two separate cases brought by the Punjab and Islamabad police.
The case is still under investigation by the police.
