The PTI leader made the statement in a televised address shortly after the government moved the “Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023” in the National Assembly on Tuesday. “Everyone of us wants judicial reforms, but their [the PDM parties’] only goal is to escape from the election,” he said.
A few hours after CJP Umar Ata Bandial expressed concern with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), claiming that the electoral body hastily drafted its decision to postpone elections in Punjab, the government introduced the bill.
The PTI appeal, which challenges the Election Commission’s decision to postpone the Punjab polls, which are required by the Constitution to take place in April, was heard when the CJP made these comments.
Imran Khan stated that Pakistan needs judicial reforms and added that the government will never allow the court to be independent. He emphasized that the decision was hastily made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in order to exert pressure on the judiciary.
The neutrals are supporting them, the handlers are openly conspiring with the rulers, and when someone criticizes them, they claim that you are degrading the institution, the man added.
The PTI leader added that members of his party’s social media team had been arrested. He claimed that although the rulers are incredibly ruthless, they have very innocent faces.
He insisted, “The administration is doing nothing in accordance with the law. At least 40 instances of terrorism have been filed against me. Am I a terrorist?
The game would soon be out of everyone’s control, the former prime minister said, if the current leaders kept acting in this way. There is still a need for a course correction, Khan said, adding that the “neutrals” should do so because their approach to using intimidation and fear to get their way isn’t working.
When he was prime minister, two of his staff members were sentenced to probation and he asked Shahbaz Gill the same question. “Would this not make anyone suspicious why they want to know what someone eats?” he claimed. “My cook was also taken by them and questioned about what I ate.”
He maintained that free and open elections are the only way to address the current issues.
