WhatsApp Introduces Game-Changing Features for Group Calling, Multi-Device Syncing, and More

WhatsApp has announced new features to enhance its user experience, including group video and audio calls with up to 8 and 32 participants on mobile and desktop apps.

The platform also offers multi-device linking, where users can access one account across multiple devices and sync across devices for faster linking and new features such as link previews and stickers.

Group Video Calling

WhatsApp now allows group video calls with up to 8 participants and audio calls with up to 32 participants as a new feature. The updated WhatsApp app for Windows now supports these group calls with end-to-end encryption. In addition to the desktop app, the mobile version of WhatsApp also enables users to conduct group calls with the same participant limits. WhatsApp has announced that it will further increase the number of people who can participate in group calls in the future, which will make it even more convenient for users to conduct group calls, including those made from their desktops.

Better Big Screen Experience

Another area that WhatsApp has been improving is the big screen experience, particularly since they announced multi-device linking. With the multi-device linking feature, WhatsApp users can use one account across multiple systems. In June 2022, the company launched a new Mac client in public beta with performance improvements optimized for Apple Silicone-based systems. They are also testing a new version of the app that is optimized for Android tablets.

Multi-Device Syncing

WhatsApp has made various improvements to improve syncing across devices, faster device linking, and new features like link previews and stickers. The platform has even tweeted that now users can link their WhatsApp accounts to up to four devices. This means that users can keep their chats synced and encrypted even after their phone goes offline, making it more convenient for them to use WhatsApp on multiple devices.

Earlier this week, WhatsApp announced two new features to improve user group management and navigation. The updates will make groups “more manageable” for admins and easier for everyone to navigate.

With the introduction of one of the latest features, group admins can exercise greater control over which one is suitable for the group. They can decide who can join when they share their group’s invite link or make their group joinable in a community. WhatsApp understands that group chats are where people often engage in private conversations, and giving administrators the authority to control who can or cannot join is crucial.

The second improvement enables users to search for common groups by simply typing in the contact’s name. WhatsApp aims to simplify the process of finding which groups users share with each other, especially with the rise of Communities and their larger groups. This new feature will help to keep the conversation on track. With this feature, users can search for a contact’s name and see their common groups.

Although these features are initially available to selective users, WhatsApp is hoping to roll them out globally very soon. With these new features, group management and navigation on WhatsApp will become much more user-friendly, helping users to stay connected with their friends and family more easily.
