Shahid Afridi Doesn’t Want Shaheen Afridi To Lead Pakistan Team

Shahid Afridi has backed Shadab Khan, the Afghanistan series captain.

Shahid Afridi, a former cricket player, has endorsed Shadab Khan, who has been named captain of the upcoming Afghanistan series.

The squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan was unveiled on Monday by Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed. The first episode of the series will air on March 24th.

For the series, Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, was rested along with Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Shahid clarified his position on the matter by saying that Shaheen was never intended to be the captain.

He said the following on a local cricket show: “I have no connection to the cricket board at all. Shaheen was advised by me not to accept the PSL franchise captaincy or the captaincy of the national team.”

“Second, the board’s choice is wise and appropriate in light of seniority. Since Shadab has been acting as vice-captain for a while now, he is the rightful choice to fill Babar’s absence. I’m quite happy with the choice “Added he.

Shahid Afridi was chosen as the interim Chief Selector of the men’s cricket squad for the home series against New Zealand earlier this year by the Management Committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is led by Chairman Najam Sethi.
