Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, former leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), has officially been appointed as the President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after weeks of speculation about his appointment.
Pervez Elahi has been named the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, according to a notification signed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan. It reads, “Ch Pervez Elahi is hereby, designated as President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.”
Elahi thanked Khan for the appointment and promised to cooperate with him to make the party stronger. He went on to say that Imran Khan was the only person who had ever shown him the same level of respect.
The former Punjab Chief Minister and 10 other former party members made their decision to join the PTI public towards the end of last month. Khan and Elahi are close friends, and the former chief minister of Punjab, which is regarded as the country’s political capital, had previously vowed to support the former prime minister and see that they maintained control of Punjab.
Following the merger, Parvez Elahi and other leaders made their decision to join PTI, according to PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry, who made the announcement at a press conference in Lahore.
Elahi lost his position as the province’s Chief Minister as a result of dissolving the Punjab Assembly on Khan’s orders in January. Elahi claimed at the press conference that he had consistently stood by Imran Khan in trying circumstances and had demonstrated his loyalty in that capacity as Chief Minister.
Shortly after the declaration, Elahi was expelled from the PML-Q and forbidden from ever again using the party’s name by Chaudhry Shujaat, the party’s president. However, many political analysts and PTI supporters agree that Elahi’s selection as PTI President has been a good one.
