Balighur Rahman, the governor of Punjab, has been given instructions by the top PML-N leadership to sign the summary for dissolving the Punjab Assembly. After dissolution, a caretaker setup will be needed to handle administrative tasks.
The governor will sign the summary after receiving the go-ahead from the PML-N supremo.
Pervaiz Elahi, the chief minister, will share a few names for the caretaker set-up as talks with Hamza Shahbaz, the leader of the opposition in the assembly, are about to commence, according to PTI senior leader and close adviser of Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry.
Chaudhry anticipated Elahi to offer suggestions for candidates who could hold free and fair elections. Governor should sign the summary now, before the deadline, PTI leaders recommended.
This month, former prime minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter are scheduled to visit their home country to oversee the Punjab election campaign. Nawaz, who is in self-imposed exile in Britain, is planning to return with Maryam Nawaz. Recently, he spoke on the phone with his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif, the current Prime Minister, and other party leaders to map out a strategy in light of the political unrest in Punjab.
As Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi earlier this week signed the brief to dissolve the provincial legislature following a political tug-of-war, Sharif, 73, instructed the premier to instruct Punjab Governor Baligh-ur Rehman to handle political concerns in the nation’s most populous province.
Recently, confidant of the Sharif family and interior minister Rana Sanaullah made bold claims to destroy Imran Khan’s party in the area, claiming that his party was ready for elections in 90 days.
The National Assembly, Sindh, and Balochistan assemblies, he noted, will, however, finish their tenure in August 2023.
