On Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left on a two-day official trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The UAE President, Sheikh Muhammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, invited the prime minister to travel to the Middle Eastern country. A high-level delegation, including important cabinet members, is with the premier.
The Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed in a statement that the premier will meet with the president and prime minister of the UAE during the visit with a focus on strengthening bilateral economic, trade, and investment ties as well as expanding opportunities for the Pakistani workforce in the Gulf state.
PM Shehbaz will discuss a variety of global and regional issues of shared interest during their scheduled meeting.
The PML-N leader will also speak with investors and businesspeople in the UAE to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
“Pakistan and the UAE enjoy close connections based on common faith and traditions, shared history, and heritage; deeply ingrained cultural affinities, physical closeness, and identity of views on several regional and global issues,” the MoFA statement read.
A crucial aspect of this connection is the frequent interchange of high-level messages and visits.
Since taking office last year, the Prime Minister has travelled to the UAE three times.
Additionally, according to reports in local media, the PM would propose selling holdings in publicly traded government enterprises and ask the UAE to refinance the $2 billion debt that is due.
