National Grid Failures, External Forces May Have “Hacked” System; Dastgir

National grid failures, power minister Khurram Dastgir Khan said the government would investigate whether external forces may have "hacked" the system.

Immediately after the country went dark, the minister told a press conference that the possibility of foreign interference through the internet was low, but the matter is being investigated.

A three-member inquiry committee will be headed by Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik, according to the federal minister.

A power shortage also led to 48 hours of load shedding, according to Dastgir. The system should be fully functional by Thursday.

According to him, NTDC has restored 1,112 grid stations in Pakistan.

"The power was restored at 5:15 this morning," he said.

While the government claims that power has been restored, many areas in Karachi are still without electricity despite government claims and some areas of the country still lack electricity.

It takes 48 to 72 hours for nuclear plants to restart, and 48 hours for coal plants.

On Monday morning, the transmission line voltage fluctuated for unknown reasons. Besides needing electricity, Dastgir said the country has enough oil to power power plants.
Karachi's power will be restored soon, according to the minister. He added, "We will have routine loadshedding.".
