In a statement on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted the recent upswing in high-level bilateral meetings and emphasised the need of organised and extensive Pakistan-US engagement in achieving both nations’ common objectives in bilateral and regional areas.
According to a statement from the PM Office, the prime minister reaffirmed the significance that Pakistan places on its long-standing relations with the United States.
He emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its economic and commercial ties with the US.
The United States has continued to support Pakistan’s post-flood recovery efforts, and the Prime Minister thanked them for their assistance at the recently concluded International Conference on Resilient Pakistan in Geneva.
The government’s initiatives for economic development and reform, as well as Pakistan’s post-flood recovery, will continue to receive support from the United States, according to Ambassador Blome.
Meanwhile, according to FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, “We are having discussions on various areas, including agriculture, climate change, investment, energy, and other sectors. We also continue to address all issues that are important to both sides.”
In response to the US claim that Pakistan may still purchase Russian oil in spite of limitations, the spokeswoman made this reply.
Ned Price, a spokesman for the US State Department, said during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon that Pakistan can benefit from the incentives Washington provided to other nations for purchasing Russian oil. The FO official stated that Pakistan valued its close friendship with the US and was engaged in a “re-engagement” process.
When questioned about Abdul Rehman Makki’s assertion that he wasn’t given a chance to defend himself before the United Nations listed him, she responded that the decision was made by the international body in accordance with its listing procedure.
She stated, “Pakistan, as an accountable member of the international community, abides by the decision of the UN and its institutions. She disregarded any suggestion that Pakistan and India were engaging in covert diplomacy through the United Arab Emirates. There is now no dialogue going on between Pakistan and India, she declared.
The spokesman announced that Pakistan’s delegation to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva will be led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar later this month.
She noted that on January 30, “she will give Pakistan’s national progress report to the Council as part of the Universal Periodic Review process.”
