A significant decision has been made by the country’s Apex Committee regarding Afghan refugee policy, according to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Inspector General of Police, Moazzam Jah Ansari.
In order to ensure their eventual repatriation once their visas have expired, Afghan nationals will be monitored and regulated upon their arrival in Pakistan. According to the police, legal Afghan refugees with a UN Proof of Registration card and other necessary documents will not be targeted in the crackdown against illegal Afghan refugees.
Shehbaz Sharif, head of the Apex Committee, has established a policy direction and raised the issue of terrorism with the Afghan government. In the new policy, Afghan nationals will have to inform the police of their place of residence, provide a local guarantor for their visa, and undergo FIA and police verification. People who arrive in Pakistan without a passport and visa, as well as those who are illegal Afghan refugees, will be arrested and deported.
According to Ansari, there is no justification for Afghan refugees residing illegally in Pakistan, and that the new policy will regulate the presence of all asylum seekers under the UNHCR, Afghan refugees with refugee cards, and Afghan citizens on visas. There has been significant progress in the investigation of recent bomb blasts in Peshawar, according to the IGP, and significant developments are expected shortly.
