Rawalpindi’s transgender community has been struck by tragedy after the body of a yet-to-be-identified individual was found hanging in a residence under the control of Sadiqabad police station. In light of the victim’s mysterious death, police are investigating foul play.
According to the supervisor of the transgender residence, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, and police are searching for the last seen suspect. There are many challenges facing the transgender community in Pakistan, including violence and discrimination.
There were three major acts of violence committed against the transgender community in March of the previous year. A shooting in Mansehra resulted in the injury of five individuals, one of whom later succumbed to their injuries. K-P police arrested the attacker. Another prominent member of the community, Chaand, was killed in a separate incident, while a young transgender person was shot and killed by unidentified motorcyclists in Mardan.
In February 2021, two transgender individuals were murdered by motorcycle-riding assailants in their own home in Gujranwala.
There has been a continuous pattern of violence against the transgender community in Pakistan, illustrating the need for stronger measures to protect their rights and safety. To ensure that such incidents do not occur again, it is imperative that the authorities take swift action to bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.
